The Situational Test (Sitest), used for decades during Basic
Military Training (BMT) to identify recruits for command or
leadership posts, has become tougher.
Recruits are now scored on how they plan battle manoeuvres based
on simulated combat missions within a tight timeframe - and the
test is now incorporated within their field
camps.
This means recruits will undergo the Sitest in the same week
that they rough it out away from their bunks at Pulau Tekong's BMT
Centre, digging trenches, practising battle
manoeuvres and shooting at simulated targets.
So, even as they fight off fatigue, dust, heat and the pressures
of a 'battlefield', they will have to show that they can plan a
successful day or night 'mission' that may require digging trenches
and taking up sound battle positions to overcome the 'enemy'.
